International Bestseller 'The Palace of Illusions' To Be Adapted On The Big Screen

The novel The Palace of Illusions is the interpretation of the Hindu epic Mahabharata as that is told from Draupadi's (Panchaali's). The novel is about a woman living in a patriarchal world. It is a 2008 novel by award-winning novelist and poet Chitra Banerjee. As Booklist reviewed the plot as Smart, resilient, and courageous Panchaali, born of fire, marries all five of the famously heroic Pandava brothers. Draupadi harbor a secret love and she bears a long exile in the wilderness instigates a disastrous war, and gradually she learns about learns the truth about Krishna, her mysterious friend.

And the book was a bestseller across the globe. And recently Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s much-talked book; 'The Palace of Illusions' is all set to be adapted for the big screen now.

As per reports renowned producer, N. R. Pachisia and Dipankar Jojo Chaki have acquired the rights of the book, and are currently developing it with Author Anand Neelkantan.

The novelist Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni said that he is so excited as the novel is entirely suitable for an amazing on-screen adaptation. He further said that Mahabharat as a story is powerful, dramatic and most importantly pertinent to our lives both as men and women today.

While talking about the upcoming movie N. R. Pachisia said that they have already acquired the rights to the book, but this time is too early to talk about it.

Draupadi is considered as one of the most important female characters of the Indian epic. The novel takes us back to the time of the Indian epic The Mahabharata. It won’t be an exaggeration if we say that Mahabharata is a half-history, half-myth, and also half-magical. Through her narrator Panchaali, Divakaruni gives us an exceptional feminist interpretation of an epic story.

The novel narrates Panchaali’s life, from the beginning of her magical birth in fire and as the daughter of a king. She was made a woman with five husbands who have been cheated out of their father’s kingdom. And gradually Panchaali is swept into their quest to reclaim their birthright, remaining at the brothers’ sides through years of exile and a terrible civil war.

in the meantime, the readers never lose sight of her tricks to take over control of her household from her mother-in-law, her complicated friendship with the enigmatic Krishna, or her secret attraction to the mysterious man who is her husband’s most dangerous enemy.

Draupadi is a burning female voice in a world full of warriors, gods, and ever-influencing hands of destiny.

Worth mentioning that Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni ’s short story collection, Arranged Marriage won an American Book Award in 1995, and two of her work of fiction The Mistress of Spices and Sister of My Heart and a short story The Word Love were modified into films.

The award-winning novelist Chitra further said, “I have no doubt that this project is going to be splendid since Mr. Pachisia and Dipankar da will get the best team on board for every aspect.”
