63rd Grammy Awards Postponed to March as COVID-19 Cases Surge in Los Angeles

Los Angeles: The popular awards ceremony, Grammy Awards have been postponed to March 14, following the spike in COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles. The organisers of this mega award ceremony shared the information on Tuesday. The 63rd Grammy Awards were supposed to be held on January 31.

The broadcaster CBS and the Recording Academy said in a joint statement that the ceremony, which presents the highest honours in the music industry had been delayed after talks with the health experts and musicians.

The statement read, "After thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host and artists scheduled to appear, we are rescheduling the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards to be broadcast Sunday, March 14, 2021."

The statement further added, "The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do."

Earlier, the rescheduling of the 63rd Grammy Awards was reported by the magazines, called the Rolling Stone magazine and Variety magazine. The Recording Academy had also told its members in a memo that the new date for the Grammy Awards would be March 21.

There is a surge in the coronavirus cases in Los Angeles. There is a spike in COVID-19 deaths and hospital admission. Other public places such as the hair salons, gyms, and restaurants have been shut down. The residents have been requested to stay at home as much as possible.

The nominations for this year's Grammys is led by Beyonce with nine nods in a November announcement, which was overshadowed by a stunning snub for Canadian musician The Weeknd.

However, the Recording Academy had not yet announced who would be performing at the show. The show is a three-hour mixture of live performances by a few of the top international musicians, followed by the speeches by winners.
