TEHRAN: The "dirtiest man in the world," an Iranian loner known for going more than 50 years without taking a shower, died at the age of 94. Amou Haji was terrified of the water and hadn't had a bath in more than 60 years. He passed away on October 23 in the Fars region of southern Iran's village of Dejgah.
According to a report Haji, a single man, shied away from showering out of concern about "becoming sick,". He was initially made to take a bath a few months ago by the people. When his photos were posted online, a large number of internet users speculated the possibilities and associated problems of his "non-bathing" record.
The Iranian, who resided in the southern province of Fars, had previously resisted villagers' attempts to clean him up. He also blamed the "emotional setbacks" at a younger age as the main cause of his unorthodox decisions. For more than 50 years, Amou Haji had resisted using soap and water out of concern that he would become ill.
According to another report, he had admitted that his favourite food was a porcupine and that he resided in the village of Dejgah between a hole in the ground and a brick shack constructed by his worried neighbours.
Attempts to bathe him or provide him with clean water to drink reportedly made him more depressed. He also liked to smoke, and on at least one occasion, people saw him lighting up many cigarettes simultaneously.
Regarding whether he genuinely holds the record for going the longest without a bath, there has been a great deal of debate. In reports from back in 2009, an Indian man also became famous who hadn't had a bath or brushed his teeth in 35 years. However, It isn't mentioned anywhere regarding his current whereabouts.
