As part of a planned transition, Khan, who has worked at Apple for almost 30 years, will take over the position from Jeff Williams. Later this month, he will formally take over the role.
Until his retirement later this year, Jeff Williams, who has been the COO since 2015, will continue to answer to Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, and will be in charge of the design and Apple Watch teams. Apple acknowledged that the company's design team will report directly to Cook after Williams resigns.

Sabih Khan's ascent to one of the most prominent positions in the most valuable technological company in the world is both motivational and firmly anchored in decades of hard work. Before relocating to the US for further schooling, Khan, who was born in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, in 1966, lived in Singapore for a portion of his early years. He has a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and two bachelor's degrees in economics and mechanical engineering from Tufts University.

Khan worked for GE Plastics before joining Apple in 1995, initially in the procurement department. He helped to shape Apple's global operations and supply chain over the years, enabling the business to scale up to meet enormous global demand while upholding strict quality and delivery standards for its products.
In a statement, Tim Cook commended Khan's vision and leadership, characterizing him as a key contributor to Apple's operational success. As one of the key designers of Apple's supply chain, Sabih is a master thinker. "He has helped Apple stay strong during difficult times, expanded our global operations, and pioneered new approaches in manufacturing," Cook added.
