Khamenei vows ‘unprecedented defeat’ for US sanctions

Tehran: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged his countrymen on Wednesday to withstand the US sanctions against the Islamic republic. “Through the exercise of prudence, the Iranian nation and the officials should turn the US sanctions into an unprecedented defeat for the great Satan (the US),” Khamenei was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency. He called on the Iranian officials “for resistance against the US and Europeans bluster and idol talk”, saying that “neither their threats, nor their words, promises and signatures are valid”

Khamenei even insulted senior US officials saying that “Some US officials pretend that they are mad. Of course I don’t agree with that. Rather, they are first-class idiots." “Neither their threats, nor their words and promises, and not even their signatures is creditworthy,” Khamenei dismissed the US sanctions.

The Ayatollah even said the sanctions helped Iran to develop its domestic capabilities and "turned Iran into the region’s unparalleled power today.”

The United States withdrew from Iranian 2015 international nuclear deal in May 2018 and returned the sanctions on Iran's oil exports, banking sector and other parts of the economy which had been lifted under the landmark deal.. (IANS)
