90-year-old Margaret Keenan, first in the world to receive Pfizer vaccine shot outside a clinical trial

Coventry (United Kingdom): A 90-year-old grandmother, Margaret Keenan becomes the first person in the world to receive a shot of Pfizer vaccine, as a part of a vaccination programme. Keenan is a grandmother of four, who has lived in Coventry, United Kingdom for six decades. She was given the vaccine shot early in the morning on December 8, by nurse May Parsons at the city's University Hospital.

Keenan said that it was a 'privilege' to be the first one to receive Pfizer vaccine shot. She thanked the hospital staff for looking after her 'tremendously.' She had earlier worked as a jewellery shop assistant.

Keenan also has a piece of advice for everyone. She said, "My advice to anyone offered the vaccine is to take it - if I can have it at 90 then you can have it too!"

She would be given another vaccine jab in 21 days to ensure that she gets protected against the deadly virus.

The vaccinations will be given to several hospitals in the UK. The first ones to receive the vaccine shot will be the people above the age of 80 and care home workers. The Health Secretary of the UK, Matt Hancock said that he felt emotional when he saw Keenan receiving the first shot of Pfizer vaccine. He said that the year has been tough for so many people, and finally there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The nurse, May Parsons, who injected the first jab of Pfizer said that it was a 'huge honour' to be the first in the country to deliver the vaccine to a patient.

Earlier last week, the UK became the first country in the world to authorise the use of the COVID19 vaccine, Pfizer-BioNTech for emergency use. The vaccine started arriving in batches by the end of last week in London.
