'Nayak' effect? Finnish Prime Minister gives country's top job to a 16-year-old for a day

Helsinki: In a truly remarkable development, a 16-year-old Finnish girl was made the country's Prime Minister. Finland's actual Prime Minister Sanna Marin handed her power to a 16-year-old girl as apart of a campaign to promote girls' rights in the country.

Aava Murto of Vaasky in southern Finland turned incredibly lucky for a day. Aava, who is an active campaigner on issues relating to climate changes and human rights, said that she was having an 'exciting day' as she faced the media on the steps of the parliament after a meeting with the chancellor of justice.

The 'PM for a day' is part of a global 'Girls Takeover' campaign by children's rights charity Plan International, which aims to raise awareness of girls' digital skills in technological industries and highlight the problem of online harassment of women.

Commenting on the initiative, Aava said that girls are as adept at technology as boys, and added that elders can learn much about technology from younger people

Interestingly, this isn't the only swap that is part of the campaign.

Top jobs at leading companies like Facebook, Microsoft Twitter, and Samsung will also go to teenage girls in countries like the Philippines, the Netherlands, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

In August last, when the pandemic was at its worst, the Finnish PM, who is the youngest female PM in the world garnered praise for marrying her long-term partner in the presence of only 40 guests. The wedding was held in the PM's official residence.

Interestingly, something akin to this was observed in the 2001 Bollywood film 'Nayak' starring Anil Kapoor. In the cult film, Amrish Puri, who plays the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, voluntarily relinquishes his position of power to Anil Kapoor for 24 hours.
