Pakistan’s heaviest man dies unattended in ICU after a successful liposuction surgery

Guwahati: Noorul Hassan, the heaviest man in Pakistan, unfortunately, had to embrace death even though his liposuction operation was successfully done. Hassan, after undergoing successful liposuction surgery, was left unattended in a Lahore Hospital intensive care unit (ICU) due to a commotion inside the ICU which led him to die.

Hassan, weighing over 330 kg, was the heaviest man of the country. A resident of Sadiqabad, which is some 400 kms from Lahore, the 55-year-old had gone through a weight reduction surgery on June 28. Hassan, for the purpose of his liposuction surgery, was airlifted on a Pakistan Army helicopter to Lahore on the special directives from Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

After the successful completion of the surgery, Hassan was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as he needed to be kept under observation. Unfortunately, a commotion was created inside the ICU as the attendants of a female patient created chaos following the death of the female patient. As the nurse and attendants inside the ICU could not control the situation inside the ICU, Hassan and a second patient died for being left unattended.

Dr Maazul Hassan states in a report, "In the chaos that ensued, Noor and a second patient died due to the unavailability of staff."

The doctor also added that the intention of the relatives of the female patient was not to create deliberate chaos for which the situation inside the ICU worsened and the deaths happened. The situation took a worse shape due to the creation of violence.

In the meantime, while the chaos was underway, Noorul Hassan felt unwell and was left unattended for nearly an hour. He further added, "When they (hospital staff) noted this, they attempted to resuscitate him but were unable to successfully to do so."

The commotion inside the ICU went to such an extent that the relatives broke the windows, switched ventilators off and attacked the doctors.
