

MOSCOW: In an international event held in the capital of Russia, Russin premier Vladimir Putin praised the foreign policy of India during the crisis in Ukraine. He also applauded the position that Narendra Modi maintained.
Vladimir Putin was addressing 111 representatives of 41 countries in an event on Thursday when he made this comment. He was at the 19th annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club and talked about "A Post-Hegemonic World: Justice and Security for Everyone".
"India has come a long way from a British colony to an independent country with which we have special ties. Prime Minister Modi is a great patriot who is able to pursue independent foreign policy," said the Russian President in this forum.
He also informed that to help India deal with the lack of commodities at the start of the Ukrainian conflict, Russia increased fertiliser supply by 7.6 times after a formal request from the Government of India.
These remarks come a day after the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar will travel to Moscow for a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov next month. The significance of this meeting comes from the fact that will be just ahead of the G20 summit in Bali.
Speculations have been going around regarding Putin's visit to the meeting as the Ukraine conflict will occupy an important part of the agenda. This will be the first major event for the first Indian-origin Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
The Russian President also mentioned this decade to be the most important one since the end of World War II. And that the world no longer wants to follow the West in making decisions.
