The strongest form of magic in the world is music. Music is the universal language of mankind. Moreover, if music is in a person’s blood, it is worth mentioning as the person grows up in a musical environment. With the proper knowledge of classical music the journey of music becomes easier. Hard work and rigorous practice are the most important factors in the field of music. Sudipta Chakraborty, the well known singer of Assam, has marked her presence in the field of music by dint of her hard work and perseverance. It would not be right to consider Sudipta as a rising star as she has already achieved a respectable position in the field of music. But Sudipta always considers herself as a learner as she thinks that learning has no end in itself. Since her very childhood, Sudipta has been taking the training of music. At the tender age of four years, Sudipta started learning music from her paternal uncle Shri Dipak Chakraborty, a well known musician and artist of All India Radio. Sudipta is the daughter of famous tabla player of Assam as well as school teacher Lt Subrata Chakraborty and Lt Dipa Chakarborty. Inspired by her encouraging parents, Sudipta took the training of classical music from Mita Sen and Ashim Dutta, and has achieved the Sangit Visharad Degree in classical music from Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyapith, Lucknow.

Further she pursued her Sangit Nipun Degree in classical music from Bhatkhande Sangit VIdyapith Lucknow under the guidance of Sangit Guru Shri Damodar Bora. Apart from that she has a Sangit Visharad Degree in Rabindra Sangeer and Nazrul Geeti. She learnt Rabindra Sangeet from respected late Dilip Sharma,the well known artist of Assam.

She has learnt tabla from her father Lt Subrata Chakraborty who has a Visharad degree too from Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyapith Lucknow. She also learnt classical music from Sangit Guru Shri Debojit Roy and Pt Samaresh Choudhury. One of her music gurus is her cousin Acharya Saptarshi Chakraborty.Presently, she is the disciple of Pt Vidyadhar Mishra of Benaras gharana. Sudipta is also an approved artist of Bhajan in All India Radio. When Sudipta was in class VI, she was awarded the 2nd best singer in All Assam Music Competition “ PRATISHRUTI”. She was also awarded the Best singer of Guwahati Commerce College in the years 2003-04 and 2004-05 consecutively.In the year 2005, she got the 1st prze in all Assam Classical competition, “Sambhawana” organised by Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati. She also secured 1st position in All Assam Inter college Jyoti Sangeet Competition. She marked her presence felt when she became the 2nd runner-up of VOICE OF AXOM, the first reality show of north east organised by NETV.

Sudipta is a multi talented personality. Sudipta is not only a good singer but also a meritorious student. She passed her matriculation examination with flying colours under SEBA board with letter marks in 6 subjects including high distinction marks. In her Higher Secondary examination and degree examination she has achieved 1st division marks from Guwahati Commerce College. She persued her M.COM in Accounts and Finance from Guwahati Commerce College under Gauhati University securing 1st class and 9th position. In the year 2011, she joined United Bank of India (now Punjab National Bank).Her husband Mr Joy Saha is a Mechanical Engineer working as Assistant General Manager in a public sector unit. Her daughter Jagriti Saha is of 5 years. Her husband supports and guides her in each and every step of her life. She efficiently maintains her job, her family and also her musical career . She says, “Hard labour and sincerity in all aspects of life can help us attain success”. Sudipta is also a well known teacher of classical and modern music. Sudipta has many songs and musical videos to her credit. Some of Sudipta’s famous songs are ‘Tup Tup Bristi, Uru Uru Mon’ from her album ‘Samannoy’. She has also sung other songs like ‘O Amar Monere’, ‘Ishq Wafa’, ‘Preme Ache’, ‘O Sajan Re’ and many more. She has also done playback in Bengali movie ‘TRIDHARA’ singing the song ‘Milono Piyasi Radha’. Her bihu song ‘O Xorudoi’ has received huge appreciation. She has also sung songs in different languages such as Assamese, Hindi, Bengali etc. Sudipta says ‘’Language can never be a barrier in the musical world. Wherever I perform in and outside Assam, I get the utmost respect and love from the people.” She says that the people of Assam are extremely cultured, and they always step forward to encourage the upcoming artists. Moreover, she thinks that the upcoming artists should take the proper training of music which will help them in the long run in their musical career. We wish her a successful musical journey ahead. Her recent ‘Jhoomor’ song from ‘Asssam Deser Naari’ has received huge appreciation from the people of Assam.
