
PRAYAGRAJ: In a pre-emptive action against the propagation of misinformation, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vaibhav Krishna made the announcement that 13 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed against 140 social media handles that are spreading false content about the ongoing Maha Kumbh.
In an interview, Krishna revealed that more than one crore devotees have already taken a sacred dip at the holy Triveni Sangam.
With the Maha Shivratri festival on the horizon on February 26, 2025, officials are putting in place elaborate measures to handle the anticipated pilgrim inflow. DIG Krishna assured that traffic management strategies are in place to prevent congestion in the Mahakumbh area, emphasizing the readiness of law enforcement to handle large crowds.
According to the Uttar Pradesh government's information department, nearly 8.773 million individuals have participated in the holy dip thus far. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reported that the Mahakumbh Mela has attracted an estimated 620 million visitors.
In light of the anticipated surge in devotees, Deputy Superintendent of Police Yashwant Singh highlighted enhanced security measures at the Ayodhya Dham Railway Station. He said that access to the facility will be restricted until the trains come, with more than 350 staff being deployed to ensure safety and order. Barricades, along with a holding area, have been installed to allow efficient control of passenger flow.
With this Saturday likely being the last major bathing day, officials are vowed to ensure all participants pass through safely and securely.
