The case started off as an unintentional death. However, Anjana Solanki informed the police that her seven-year-old daughter had not slid but had been shoved into the Narmada canal in Gujarat by her husband when she felt oppressed and realized she could no longer conceal the truth.
Vijay Solanki and Anjana, who live in Kheda, left their house on June 10 to go to a nearby temple with their older daughter, Bhoomika. Anjana informed Vijay that she wanted to see her parents as the three of them rode their two-wheeler home.
Vijay, according to Anjana, refused, saying: "I wanted a boy and you gave birth to a girl".
The man pushed Bhoomika into the swift-moving water of the Narmada canal after stopping the bike on the Waghavat bridge in Kapadvanj a few minutes later, at approximately 8:00 p.m.
When her husband threatened to divorce her if she told anybody about the incident, Anjana was upset and found it difficult to accept. In the end, he delivered her to her parents' home.
Breaking down before reporters, Anjana said: "My husband made Bhoomika stand on the banks of the canal without my knowledge. He said he was showing her some fishes but pushed her straight into the canal. Before I could understand anything, Bhoomika fell into the canal and I stood there helpless."
Since giving birth to her second daughter, who is now three years old, Anjana claimed that her husband had been torturing her.
She added that she was under pressure to keep their daughter's murder a secret and to tell the police the "fish" story.
According to the police, Anjana's allegation led to Vijay's detention. "We are now doing our investigation. SP Gadhiya stated, "We are investigating every possibility, including superstition."
