
NEW DELHI: In the latest tweet by PBI (Press Information Bureau) India stated that 8.77 active electric vehicles are on Indian Roads under Phase II of FAME (Faster Adoption of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) India Scheme, Incentives provided to buyers of electric vehicles in the form of the upfront reduction."
On Tuesday 21 December, Krishnan Pal Gurjar, the Minister of State for Heavy Industries replied with his written statement in Lok Sabha that according to the e-Vahan portal under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways currently that are around 8.77 active electric vehicles in the country's road dated 8 December 2021.
Under the second phase of the scheme, FAME-India inducements are given to those people buying electric vehicles in the form of an upfront reduction in the purchasing cost of electric vehicles. Electric Vehicles come under PLI (Production Linked Incentives) schemes for Auto components and Automobiles.
Two schemes of PLI (Production Linked Incentives) are being implemented by the Ministry of Heavy Industry with the aim of promoting the manufacturing process of electric vehicles.
The approval for the PLI (Production Linked Incentives) scheme was given by the Union cabinet earlier on 12 May 2021 for establishing manufacturing facilities for Battery Storage in the country, ACC (Advance Chemistry Cell) with a total manufacturing capacity of 50 GWh (GigaWatt Hour) and with an expenditure of Rupees 18, 100 crores for the time period of five years.
The central government provided its approval on the PLI (Production Linked Incentives) scheme for Auto components and Automobiles with the budget cost of Rupees 25, 938 crores within 5 years. The use of electric vehicles in India has been increasing as a lot of people in the country are choosing electric vehicles with its affordable price.
The Union Cabinet announced the FAME-I India scheme in March 2015 with the aim of encouraging electric vehicle use in the country. The Scheme will be in effect for 5 years and the decision was made on the basis of the experience and results from Phase I of the particular scheme. The Union government also came with the decision after long time consultations and suggestions from various stakeholders.
Finally, the scheme came into effect on 1st April in the year 2019 with a total budget of Rupees 10,000 crores. Its objective is to support electric vehicle purchasers through subsidies. Centre through the scheme pays attention to providing subsidies to 55,000 e-four-wheeler; 10 lakh e-two wheelers, 5 lakh e-three wheelers and 7,000 e-buses.
