AAPSU rejects Government constituted committees

Itagar, May 13: The All Aruchal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has rejected the proposal of the state government to constitute two enquiry committees – one headed by Agriculture Commissioner and the other by local ADC to probe into the Tawang police firing that claimed two lives.

“We cannot expect an independent report by these committees since they are directly controlled by the state government. We cannot rule out possibility of political involvement in the incident,” AAPSU general secretary Biru si said in a statement today.

“We appreciate the chief minister’s statement when he says that ‘no amount of relief can compensate the loss but we must ensure that such tragedies do not occur in future’. And therefore in order to avert such incidents in future the culprits need to be punished which will also ensure justice to the victims,” he pointed out. Stating that history was a living testimony that on numbers of occasions enquiry committees set up by state government had not yield any satisfactory outcome, si said adding the union demanded for CBI enquiry which would be independent and ensure that the wrongdoers are punished whoever they maybe.

A team of AAPSU delegation wouldsubmit representation to the tiol Human Rights Commission and Amnesty Intertiol as it seems that the government is not at all interested in going for an independent enquiry rather they want an enquiry which could be dictated by them, the AAPSU general secretary added.
