The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Friday issued an advisory to all the private satellite television channels to stick to the Programme Code and emphasized that no programmes should criticize, malign, or defame any particular individual or groups.

The order comes after actor Rakul Preet Singh filed a petition in Delhi High Court against unsubstantiated reports linking her with drug probe related to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

The advisory mentioned that the television channels would show restraint in their reporting and abide by the provisions of the Programme Code as well as various guidelines, both statutory and self-regulatory.

As per the Code, no programme is allowed to malign or slander any individual in person or groups, segments of the social, public, and moral life of the country, and all the private TV channels are requested to ensure compliance with the directions.
