As their eight-day police detention comes to a close today, all five of the defendants in the murder case of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi will be brought before the District and Sessions Court in Shillong. A further extension of their custody will be sought by the police.
While on honeymoon in Meghalaya, the victim's wife, Sonam, and her claimed lover, Raj Kushwaha, hired three killers to assassinate Raja Raghuvanshi. On June 2, his body was discovered.
On June 11, Sonam, Raj Kushwaha, the five accused, and the hired killers Anand Singh Kurmi, Akash Rajput, and Vishal Singh Chauhan were brought before the District and Session Court in Shillong following their apprehension. All five of the accused were placed into police custody for eight days by the court.
With Meghalaya police investigating family members and searching for Sonam's missing phones, the investigation's attention has now moved to Indore. Additionally, they are looking for information about people she has recently communicated with often.
“We have discovered that Sonam made over 100 phone calls to one Sanjay Verma before her marriage to Raja,” East Khasi Hills district SP Vivek Syiem as said. The police further noted that the calls continued even after the wedding.
Later on, it was revealed that Sanjay Verma was actually Raj Kushwaha, Sonam Raghuvanshi's boyfriend. According to the investigation, on May 23, Kushwaha dispatched three hitmen to commit the horrific crime in Sonam's presence.
In addition to the love triangle, the Special Investigation Team is apparently looking into the murder's financial motivation.
Govind, the brother of Sonam Raghuvanshi, asserted that he did not know Sanjay Verma and had no connection to him.
