Guwahati: The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu started his day-long fast 'Dharma Porata Deeksha' in the nation's capital Delhi granting demand of special status for the state and also urge the Centre to fulfill promises made when Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.

Before heading to observe the fast in Andhra Pradesh Bhawan, the Chief Minister paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Chief Naidu had quit the BJP led National Democratic Alliance because of the reason that it has done injustice done to Andhra Pradesh after its bifurcation. Naidu also accused the Modi government of going back one a long-awaited promise of special state status for the state of Andhra Pradesh which would grant it a greater share of funds.

The AP Chief Minister had also observed a fast last year in Vijayawada on his birthday on April 20 demanding special status of the state. The TDP also moved 'No Confidence Motion' in the monsoon session of Parliamentary in July which was defeated last year after quitting the NDA.

Over five years ago, Chandrababu Naidu had launched an indefinite fast at the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan. If a separate state was to be carved out then both should get equal justice, he had demanded. He was forcibly taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on the fifth day after his health deteriorated.
