
TIRUPATI: A tragic stampede at the Tirupati temple killed four people and injured 150 others ahead of the token distribution for Lord Venkateswara’s darshan in Tirumala.
The allocation of Vaikuntha Dwara Darshan tokens was scheduled to start early Thursday morning, but devotees began gathering at the distribution centers as early as Wednesday evening.
According to initial reports, a stampede-like situation arose at the temple premises, leading to chaos. A woman devotee from Salem, Tamil Nadu, was among those who lost their lives, while four others sustained injuries. All the injured were immediately transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Videos of police personnel performing CPR on two women devotees and transferring injured individuals to ambulances quickly went viral on social media, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, calling it a heartbreaking misfortune for the devotees seeking the Lord’s darshan.
Extending his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the Deputy CM urged the Medical and Health Department to provide the best possible medical care to the injured. He noted that some of the deceased and injured had come from other regions and directed the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam authorities to make immediate arrangements to provide accurate information and necessary support to their families.
