New Delhi: A days after Supreme Court cancelled Ashish Mishra's bail in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, the latter surrendered at a local court on Sunday.
The Supreme Court had last week cancelled the bail granted to him by the Allahabad High Court and asked him to surrender within a week.
Ashish has surrendered in court. We were given a week's time but as Monday was the last day, he surrendered a day ahead," Ashish's counsel Awadesh Singh was quoted as saying by PTI.
Ashish Mishra is the son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra and after surrendering, he was again sent to jail.
According to reports, he was taken to the jail through the back door amid tight security in a police car.
In October last year, eight people lost their lives in Lakhimpur Kheri during the violence that erupted when farmers were protesting against Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's visit to the area.
The dead included four farmers and a journalist, who were mowed down allegedly by cars carrying BJP workers.
