ATTSA stages protest in Dibrugarh, demands CBI probe

DIBRUGARH, April 22: The District Unit of Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA) submitted a memorandum to the Governor, through the Deputy Commissioner, here, on Friday. The memorandum was given in protest against the recent electrocution of 11 innocent people, who on April 11, had gathered at  Pengeri P.S in Tinsukia District, to register  their dissent  against  the killing of two innocent persons.  

A two-hour sit-in-strike was also staged by the district committee of ATTSA, after which they forwarded the memorandum that incorporated the demands like order to hold a CBI enquiry into the unpleasant incident and immediate suspension of the officer in charge of the Pengeri police station who had ordered police. Compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the next of the kin of all those killed in police firing and grant of rupees 5 lakh.

The students group has also demanded a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh for the family of deceased Suni and Lakhimoni Gorh. While for the critically injured Debaru Gorh, a sum of rupees 5 lakh has been claimed for.

ATTSA district president and general secretary, Lazar nd and Pramod Barola, respectively, have made demands for government jobs for the kin of those killed in the Pengeri incident. Stringent punishment for the perpetrators of April 6 twin murders of Suni and Lakhimoni Gorh, have been appealed for in the memorandum.

Moreover specialized and free treatments have also been demanded for all the injured tea workers. In the memorandum, the assurance for providing of security to the life and property of the tea community people, have also been claimed for.

The memorandum also includes the demand for establishment of at least three Police outpost under Pengeri police station.
