BENGALURU: An arrest warrant has been issued against former cricketer Robin Uthappa for alleged fraud concerning provident fund contributions of employees at a clothing company he oversees.

Uthappa, who serves as the director of Bengaluru-based Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Pvt Ltd, has been given until December 27 to pay dues amounting to nearly Rs. 24 lakh to avoid arrest.

According to Regional PF Commissioner Sadakshari Gopal Reddy, the company owes damages of approximately Rs. 23,36,602, which are to be recovered from Uthappa. The arrest warrant was issued on December 4.

The 39-year-old former cricketer is accused of deducting provident fund amounts from employees' salaries but failing to deposit the funds into their respective accounts.

The letter from the PF office stated that due to the non-payment of dues, the office is unable to process the provident fund accounts of affected workers. It instructed the police to arrest Uthappa and return the warrant by December 27.

Robin Uthappa, a celebrated cricketer, has represented India in 59 international matches and was a prominent player in the Indian Premier League. He has amassed 1,183 runs in international cricket, including seven half-centuries.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Telugu actor Allu Arjun had been arrested in connection with a fatal stampede that had occurred during the premiere of his film Pushpa 2 at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on December 4.

In this unfortunate incident, 39-year-old Revathi had lost her life whereas her eight-year-old son had been taken for treatment at a hospital. The interrogations had begun on Friday after he had been taken in for questioning at the Chikkadpally Police Station.
