BENGALURU: A woman of around 37 years died by means of suicide at her residence in Bengaluru’s Hegganahalli, officials said on Tuesday.

The dead woman, identified only as Pavitra, posted a note on her WhatsApp status in which she accused her 32-year-old husband, Chetan Gowda, of carrying on an illicit affair with another woman, who was not named.

The incident reportedly took place on July 2, but officials only revealed it on Tuesday as investigation was going on.

Pavitra had uploaded a death note along with a short clip on her WhatsApp status prior to her death, where she allegedly showed husband Chetan Gowda attacking her.

Seeing her daughter’s WhatsApp status, Pavitra’s mother Padma tried to call her, but all of her calls went unanswered. Now in a panic, the mother rushed to Pavitra’s Hegganahalli residence, where was shocked to discover her daughter hanging from a ceiling fan.

The mother promptly contacted the police and accused her son-in-law and another unnamed woman of alleged abetment of her daughter’s suicide.

According to police sources, Chetan Gowda is the owner of a firm named Sumukh Merchants Private Limited and Pavitra used to work there as a manager. She reportedly fell in love with Chetan, divorced her first husband and started living with him.

“The deceased, in her suicide note, claimed that she was married to Chetan Gowda. We are investigating the matter and trying to find evidence of when and where they got married, as there is no evidence available so far," said a top police source on the condition of anonymity.

The police also disclosed that just one day before Pavitra died by committing suicide, the couple had a big fight regarding Chetan’s alleged affair with another woman. Following the fight, Chetan went away to his mother’s place. The very next day Pavitra died by hanging herself.

Meanwhile, based on a complaint filed by Pavitra’s mother in the case, the Kengeri police have registered an FIR against Chetan and an unknown woman under IPC section 306 (Abetment of suicide)

Moreover, the police have constituted a team to tackle the case and are on the search for the accused husband, who is currently on the run.
