Guwahati: Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has become the latest high-profile personality in the country to become infected with the dreaded coronavirus on Monday (August 10).

The 84-year-old Pranab Mukherjee informed that while visiting the hospital for a separate procedure, he was tested for the coronavirus and his swab tested positive for the dreaded virus. The former President has appealed all the persons who have been in close proximity to him over the past few days to get tested for the virus.

"On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self-isolate and get tested for COVID-19", Mukherjee wrote in his tweet, along with the hashtag "CitizenMukherjee."

Soon after Mukherjee's admission, wishes started pouring in from all corners of the country.

"Sir, wishing you a speedy recovery and a long & healthy life", wrote senior Congress leader and former Cabinet Minister Ajay Maken.

"Concerned to know that you have tested positive for Corona. I pray to Lord Jagannath for your quick recovery", wrote another Congressman, Niranjan Patnaik from Odisha.
