Fourteen sites are being raided, including two in Mumbai and twelve in Utraula, in the Uttar Pradesh district of Balrampur.
Official reports claim that the operation started at around five in the morning. The agency is looking into any foreign funding and money laundering connections to purportedly unlawful religious conversions.

Days after the ED opened an official inquiry into Jamaluddin, also known as Chhangur Baba, it took this action. Jamaluddin is accused of religious conversions, misappropriation of foreign cash, and actions that could jeopardize national security and disrupt communal peace.
In order to investigate money laundering offences, the ED filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against Chhangur Baba on July 9 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ECIR revealed that Baba possesses Rs 106 crore in funds, primarily from the Middle East, spread across 40 bank accounts.
On July 10, the ED requested comprehensive information regarding Chhangur Baba from the District Magistrate, several banks, and local police officials as part of its investigation.

According to officials, the investigation's goal is to determine the origin and ultimate purpose of foreign donations purportedly received by people or organizations connected to Chhangur Baba.
According to the agency, these monies might have been used for illegal purposes, such as planning religious conversions and upsetting the peace.
