SHILLONG, May 29: Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has expressed his profound sorrow and pain at the unexpected demise of Rev. Fr. Sylvanus Sngi Lyngdoh, SDB, who passed away on May 28.
In a letter sent to Rev. Fr. George Maliekal, SDB Provincial, Salesian Province of Silchar and to the Matthias Institute, Mawlai Motsiar, Shillong, Sangma said, “With profound grief and sorrow, I join the people of the State and the Salesian of Don Bosco family in mourning the demise of Late Rev. Fr. Sylvanus Sngi Lyngdoh, SDB.”
He said Rev. Fr. Sylvanus Lyngdoh will always be fondly remembered for his multi-faceted persolity, who dedicated his life for bringing in righteousness, enlightenment and prosperity for the people of the Khasi Hills region in particular and the people of the North Eastern region in general.
“His long innings of contribution for the cause of education, literature and welfare of the Khasi community in particular and the society in general remains incomparable,” he said adding that the Late Rev. will be cherished by all for years to come as a scholar, a theologian, a social worker, writer and a missiory. “In this moment of grief, I on behalf of myself and the Government, convey our sincere and deepest condolences to the Salesians of Don Bosco family. I pray that our Gracious Almighty God will grant all the mourners strength and comfort in this moment of grief,” he said.
