Committee Formed to study Farm Laws Submits Report to SC

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court appointed committee formed to study the three new contentious farm laws has submitted its report to the apex court on March 19 after due consultation with various stakeholders, said reports.

The farmers protesting at Delhi borders for over four months want the Centre's three new farm laws repealed. Despite several rounds of talks with the centre, no concrete solution has emerged so far. The farmers fear that the new laws will dismantle the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and corporatise the farming sector. They have been demanding for the repeal of the three farm laws under the condition that the MSP will continue.

Meanwhile, the apex court on January 11, stayed the implementation of the three laws till further orders and appointed a four-member panel to resolve the impasse.

Accordingly, a committee was formed to study the three new controversial agricultural laws and the committee was given two months to study the laws and consult all stakeholders.

While addressing the media, one of the members of the committee P K Mishra said, "We submitted the report on March 19 in a sealed cover. Now, the court will decide the future course of action."

As per the committee's official website, the panel held total 12 rounds of consultations with various stakeholders, including farmers groups, farmer producers organisations (FPOs) procurement agencies, professionals, academicians, private as well as state agriculture marketing boards.

Meanwhile, as per reports, the protesting farmers will march to parliament in the first half of May, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha - an umbrella body of 40 farmers' unions that has been leading the agitation - announced on Wednesday.

"SKM has announced a parliament march in the first fortnight of May. Other than farmers and labourers, women, Dalit-Adivasi-Bahujans, unemployed youth and every section of the society will be part of this march. This program will be completely peaceful," it said in a statement.

The protestors will be participating in a foot march, however, the date of the events will be announced in the coming days.
