Special CBI Court To Announce Sentencing In Dera Sacha Sauda Manager Murder Case Today

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and four others were arrested for allegedly killing his former manager Ranjit Singh in 2002.

On October 8, Dera Sacha Sauda chief and four others were found guilty and convicted for the murder of Ranjit Singh in 2002 by the special CBI court here.

Police sources said that to prevent any kind of incidents ahead of the announcement of the punishment of five accused including Ram Rahim, Section 144 clamped in the area.

The police also said that security has been beefed up in the area.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought death sentence for the Dera chief. However, Ram Rahim has pleaded for mercy via video conference from Rohtak Jail.

The court will sentence the punishment through video conferencing.

Former Dera manager Ranjit Singh, who was also a follower of the sect, was shot dead in 2002.

Earlier, In a major development in a five-year-old theft of the Sikh holy scriptures in Punjab, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) made controversial Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving a 20-year jail sentence for raping two of his disciples, an accused in the case. He was named as a conspirator in the crime, a senior police official said. The SIT, led by Deputy Inspector General, Jalandhar Range, Ranbir Singh Khatra, had on Saturday arrested seven Dera Sacha Sauda followers from Faridkot district for stealing a 'bir' of the Guru Granth Sahib from Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village in June 2015. The case was registered at the Bajakhana police station in Faridkot.
