GOLAGHAT, February 12: Golaghat based consultant cardiologist Dr Debraj Saha filed a case at Golaghat Court against two RTI activists for allegedly blackmailing him.
Talking to reporters, Dr. Saha said that two RTI activists— Mustaq Ali and Pulok Gogoi blackmailed him in the me of RTI letter and demanded Rs. 50,000 from him.
Following Saha’s complaint, a court here registered a case (No-18/2016) under section 500/501/384 IPC and civil defamation case No. 2/2016.
Dr. Saha Said that RTI activists Mustaq Ali and Pulok Gogoi pressurized him in a different manner asking the money.
He said that two RTI activists raised questions about the authority qualification of Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Cardiology. The two RTI activists distributed leaflets in public places to defame his prestige besides sending letters to all Nursing homes and laboratories in Golaghat district not to use his service as cardiologist.
Further, he said he got M.B.B.S. degree from Assam Medical College, Digrugarh and Post graduate diploma in clinical cardiology from Indira Gandhi tiol Open University. In the guidelines of IGNOU clearly mentioned that an M.B.B.S. doctor is legally allowed to practice in the areas related to medicine and surgery under allopathic system.
Dr. Saha said, “I study the PGDCC which is two year full time residency programme in clinical cardiology which has been designed in consultation with leading cardiologists from across the country, keeping all teaching and training parameters in mind.”
Meanwhile, the IGNOU regarding a few misconceptions about the Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Cardiology Programme, in a statement clarified that the MBBS medical graduates who have successfully completed the two years fulltime residency Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Cardiology Programme, offered by the IGNOU had been developed from a tiol perspective keeping the needs of the society at large, which aims at developing a cadre of non-intervention Cardiologist through a fulltime rigorous training in top cardiac hospitals.
“The Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical (Non-invasive) Cardiology has been designed and developed by the School of Health Sciences, IGNOU, New Delhi, in consultation with leading Cardiologists and Cardiac Hospitals from across the country, keeping all the teaching and training parameters in mind,” Dr Ila Das, Regiol Director of IGNOU, said.
