NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, an elderly woman died from several stab wounds after being allegedly attacked by unidentified people in Mandawali, east Delhi. Sudha Gupta, 72, had been living alone in Guru Nanak Pura, Laxmi Nagar, since her husband died, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Amrutha Guguloth.
According to a report, Sudha Gupta, the victim, was murdered on Tuesday afternoon at the Mandawali railway underbridge near Preet Vihar, just a few hundred metres from her son Pankaj's clinic.
According to DCP (East) Amrutha Guguloth, police received a call on Tuesday afternoon that two males had inflicted knife injuries on a woman. When they arrived at the scene, under the railway bridge in Mandawali, they discovered that the woman had been admitted to a hospital in Preet Vihar.
Police said she owned at least four properties in east Delhi's Laxmi Nagar and Mandawali, and that she lived off the income she received from these properties. They claimed she resided alone in her Guru Nanakpura home, while her five children — three sons and two daughters — live with their different families in east Delhi suburbs.
The form of her various injuries on her upper body, including her face, suggested she was repeatedly stabbed with an item ranging from an icepick to a huge syringe, they said.
According to the preliminary investigation, the woman was riding her Hero Pleasure scooter from Mandawali to Preet Vihar on Tuesday afternoon. Two different calls were made to the police control room (PCR) about 2.30pm. The original report stated that two young males stabbed a woman. The second stated that a woman was being transported to a neighbouring private hospital, according to the DCP.
Meanwhile, police said they were investigating into the role of a family who lived above a clinic but had lately been ordered to leave - one of their members had recently returned from a period in prison, and the neighbours had complained, prompting Sudha to urge them to go.
