Delhi Election 2025: BJP Takes Early Lead as Vote Counting Begins

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India is set to announce the highly anticipated results of the 70-member Delhi Assembly Election 2025 today. Vote counting is currently underway across various centers in the national capital. Ahead of the results, several key candidates, including BJP’s Shikha Rai, Congress’ Alka Lamba, and AAP’s Manish Sisodia and Saurabh Bharadwaj, were seen visiting temples to offer prayers. 

Exit polls have largely predicted a victory for the BJP, signaling a potential setback for the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Today’s final verdict will determine the party that will govern Delhi for the next five years. 

As per the Election Commission data at 10:00 AM, BJP is leading in 42 seats, showcasing a strong early performance. AAP is ahead in 27 seats, while Congress holds a lead in just one seat.

Former Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal is contesting from the New Delhi constituency against BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit. In the Kalkaji constituency, AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi is facing Congress’ Alka Lamba and BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri. In Jangpura, AAP’s Manish Sisodia is up against BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah and Congress’ Farhad Suri. 

As per initial trends, Arvind Kejriwal has secured 2,198 votes so far and is trailing BJP’s Parvesh Verma who has secured 2,272 votes, whereas Sandip Dikshit is also trailing with 404 votes in the New Delhi seat. Meanwhile, BJP candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa is leading in the Rajouri Garden constituency.
