NEW DELHI: The former Delhi deputy chief minister and excise minister, Manish Sisodia, who was detained for his alleged involvement in a money laundering case involving alleged irregularities in the city's excise policy, had his bail request denied by the Delhi High Court on Monday.

Sisodia was denied relief by Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma because, in his words, he is not eligible for bail at this time.

The court also noted that some evidence is also said to have emerged during the investigation to show that some of the kickback or bribe amount received from South lobby was spent or utilized in connection with the election campaign of the AAP in Goa.

Some cash payments through hawala channels are alleged to have been sent to Goa for bearing the said expenses, and even some fake invoices are alleged to have been created as a cover-up for the cash amounts transferred.

The co accused Vijay Nair, who represented the applicant and the AAP and served as the party's media in charge, is alleged to have given the instructions for the aforementioned cash transfers. He is also alleged to have hired a company called M/S Chariot Productions Media Pvt. Ltd., which is owned by the coaccused Rajesh Joshi, to handle the party's election-related advertising needs and other tasks during the relevant elections.

The applicant's involvement in the aforementioned criminal conspiracy, his connection to the activities relating to the generation, acquisition, use, etc. of the aforementioned proceeds of crime within the meaning of Section 3 of the PMLA, and the oral and written evidence gathered in support of the same and as placed for the court's consideration, this court is of the considered opinion that even if the applicant is found not guilty of all of the charges made against him or her.
