Discussion held on development of DTP drain

Dibrugarh, May 3: A discussion on the flood situation of Dibrugarh town and development of Dibrugarh Town Protection (DTP) Drain was recently held here at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

The meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner MS Manivann, and attended amongst others by the local officer of Water Resource, Town, Village Planning, Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Programme, Dibrugarh Municipality Board (DMB) chairman Anuradha Dey, Additiol Commissioners Anjav Chaliha , Lakhindan Gogoi and Sajad Alam , Additiol  Assistant Magistrates  Mirza Ahmed, Tanvi Ahmed and heads of various departments and senior citizens,  extensively discussed the aspects of digging, upgradation and transformation of  Dibrugarh Town Protection Drain (DTP).

Speaking at the discussion, the Project Coorditor of Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Programme, Anurag Singh (IFS) stated that from the funds received from Asian Development Bank (ADB) and  for the first time in Dibrugarh, the construction work of DTP  Drain  was being carried out through Pre-Cast Technology. Singh further stated that construction of Protection Drain Trance - 1 would be completed by 2018 and that work of Trance - 2 would be completed in 2020. Anurag Singh, also deliberated that to avoid further flood mece like the previous year, by using the specialized instrument Barzor, steps had been taken to clean up the clogged drains. At present, by using two such machines , work for cleaning of drains was being carried out, while the work of  drain cleaning process was scheduled to be completed by June by employing  four other  additiol Barz machines.

Moreover , in Dibrugarh town, a proposal for Comprehensive Flood Magement Plan  has been placed by the Asian Development Bank. Under NLCPR Project , the drain construction work in Mancotta Road and Jibon Phukan gar is  being carried out which may help in decreasing the flood water levels to some extent, affirmed Anurag Singh.

The meeting even called upon the residents of the town to use the fixed dustbins placed by Dibrugarh Municipality, and not to clog the drains by throwing away garbage, wastes and polythene bags in them. As such for creating awareness among the residents, the district administration will take steps to put plaques in some of the chosen areas.

In the prelimiry phase, in four municipal wards, a test would also be carried out to pick up garbage from each house for their help.

Notably, a Monitoring Room would be set up at the office of Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Programme Office, located here at Aditya Complex , Khalihamari  for people to lodge their complaints on matters relating to flood and disposal of garbage  and polythene bags in drains.
