SHILLONG, June 7: The Meghalaya cabinet has approved the draft rules on the “Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.” Informing the media on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister (in-charge revenue), Roytre C Laloo said that the draft rules would be published and put in public domain for 30 days to solicit views and opinions of stakeholders on the draft rules. The draft rules will subsequently come back to the cabinet for fil approval. Laloo also said that the opinion of the autonomous district councils (ADCs) will also be taken on this regard. The Deputy Chief Minister informed that the act will apply if there is need to acquire lands even as he said that lands measuring 5 acres in urban areas and 50 acres in rural areas will be exempted from the act.
