Ex-Prez Pranab Mukherjee continues to be critical: Hospital

Guwahati: The condition of former President Pranab Mukherjee continues to be critical and he is on ventilator support, the Army's Research and Referral hospital said on Monday.

Doctors attending on Mukherjee said that his "vital and clinical parameters" are stable and he is being closely monitored.

"The condition of Shri Pranab Mukherjee continues to be critical. His vital and clinical parameters are stable. Mukherjee is on ventilatory support and is being closely monitored," a statement from the hospital said on Monday (August 17).

It is to be noted that Mukherjee was admitted to the hospital in Delhi Cantonment on August 10 and was operated for removal of a clot in the brain.

The 84-year-old has been in a coma and continues to remain in a critical condition since then.

 Mukherjee had also tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus before he underwent surgery.

"On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for Covid-19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for Covid-19", Mukherjee tweeted on Monday.

According to Mukherjee's family, there has been a slight improvement in his health ever since the operation.

On Wednesday (August 16), Mukherjee's son had tweeted that his father was much better and stable than the preceding days.

"Yesterday , I had visited my Father In Hospital . With God's grace & all your good wishes , He is much better & stable than D preceeding days! All his vital parameters are stable & he is responding to treatment ! We firmly believe that He will be back among us soon. Thank You," Abhijeet Mukherjee wrote.

Mukherjee was the 13th President of India from 2012 to 2017.
