NEW DELHI: Farmers participating in the 'Delhi Chalo' protest marched towards Delhi on Monday, demanding a discussion on Minimum Support Price (MSP). They breached police barricades in Noida but withdrew after talks with authorities, restoring normalcy in the area.

The protest, initiated by the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad, aimed to amplify the farmers' call for government action on MSP and other agricultural issues.

Farmers first group started its march from Maha Maya flyover in Noida by around noon. Policemen erected barricades and put up alerts on all highways. However, the farmers clashed off the barricades, but decided to leave after holding discussions with the law enforcement officials. The policemen then dismantled barricades, restoring normal traffic conditions.

Joint CP Law and Order Noida, Shivhari Meena said that the farmers had submitted their demands to the authorities and had been assured. Security at Delhi borders was enhanced with extra deployment and drones monitoring the situation.

After negotiations with the government stagnated, the farmers, fighting under the aegis of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, have been demanding a legal guarantee for MSP, among other things, for months. The Supreme Court recently ordered farmer activist Jagjit Singh Dallewal to refrain from obstructing roads while protesting.
