FIR Lodged Against 'Mirzapur' Makers For Hurting Sentiments

Varanasi: An FIR has been lodged against the makers of the popular web series 'Mirzapur' and the OTT platform company Amazon Prime Video at Mirzapur Kotwali (Dehat) police station in Varanasi for allegedly hurting the religious and social sentiments of the people and 'distorting' the image of the city Mirzapur which known for having the shrine of Goddess Vindhyavasini.

Ajay Kumar Singh, Superintend of Police (SP) of Mirzapur said that the FIR has been lodged against the producers of the web series and Amazon Prime Video under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Information Technology IT Act based on a complaint of one Arvind Chaturvedi, a resident of Chilbiliya village.

According to the lodged FIR, the producers of Mirzapur, Bhaumik Gondaliya, Ritesh Sidwani, and Farhan Akhtar, and Amazon Prime Video have been booked under IPC sections 295-A (Injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class of persons), 504 (intentionally insults, with intent to provoke breach of the peace),505 (In order to encourage or likely to encourage, any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any community or other class persons.) 34 (For criminal acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and 67A (For publishing of content containing sexually explicit act) of IT Act.

Chaturvedi in his complaint alleged that the web series Mirzapur contains abusive words, denoted illicit relationships, and has been made to hurt the religious and social sentiments of the people of Mirzapur.

Popular web series Mirzapur is a crime drama known for its violent fights, bloodbath, sexual scenes, and its unpredictable storyline featuring Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, and Divyendu Sharma in a lead role in the series.
