Five Bajrang Dal Members Arrested for Heckling Women for 'Being in Company of Muslims'

BENGALURU: Mangaluru police arrested five Bajarang Dal members for, allegedly, harassing a group of six medical students for being in the company of Muslim youths.

The incident took place on Sunday evening when six students of KS Hegde Medical College were driving back from a trip to Malpe Beach in the Udupi district. The group of Bajrang Dal members intercepted the car near a toll plaza in the Surathkal area of Mangaluru and heckled the students.

Police sources said the Bajarang Dal members stopped a group of six students of KS Hedge Medical College on their returning from Malpe beach in the Udupi district.

The medical students alleged that they were heckled by the Bajarang Dal members as the three females among them are Muslim. They returned from Udupi in a car and the incident occurred near a toll plaza in the Surathkal area of Mangaluru.

Seeing the incident traffic police intervened and later the police arrested the harassers. The accused were identified as Preetam Shetty, Abhishek, Rakesh, Srinivas and Arshith.

The five arrested men have been booked under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint meant), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (provoking by intentionally insulting) of the Indian Penal Code.
