This year will mark the 152nd birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi i.e. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. The country celebrates the birth of Mahatma Gandhi each year on October 2nd as National Holiday on this day and this time too it will pay homage in the honour and tribute of the Mahatma. Mahatma Gandhi was born in Gujarat on 2nd October 1869 and the same day is also celebrated as the birthday of another legend, former PM of the country, Lal Bahadur Shastri born on October 2, 1904.

This year the occasion of the 152nd birth anniversary of the Mahatma matches with the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav which was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 12th March, on the 91st anniversary of a very notable and remarkable episode in the life of Mahatma Gandhi called the Dandi March. The Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav is meant to be celebrated till the 77th Independence Day i.e. 15th of August, 2023.

Mahatma Gandhi at first being a lawyer led his journey of fighting against the rights of the citizen of India changed his life then after his great experiences gathered in South Africa. Gandhi's role in India's independence movement has been the most significant and crucial through the process of being evident by choosing the non-violent methods and techniques in getting free from British rule. Mahatma Gandhi is also called 'Bapu' which means father, however 'Mahatma' is the name commonly accepted which is given by Rabindranath Tagore known as "Gurudev", India's first Nobel medalist. This name given by Gurudev has been in many arguments and debated a lot by the Gujarat government asserting that the name was given by Saurashtra who was a local journalist.

Leaders from all over the world summon and respect Gandhi as he has been the inspiration for many. Those leaders from various regions whenever visits India they definitely visit Gandhi's residence in Delhi to pay tribute to the freedom fighter. In a meeting in the White House last week, US president Joe Biden quoted Mahatma Gandhi in his conversation with PM Modi. The day of Gandhi Jayanti is also celebrated internationally as Nonviolence Day in the reminiscence of Gandhi, the Mahatma. In India's struggle for independence Mahatma Gandhi as a very powerful political leader played a major role against the dominant rule of the British, his ideology of Nonviolence led great imprint in history. Gandhi has inspired and motivated the common Indian citizens to fight against colonial rule and adopt nationalism by challenging the salt tax imposed by the British. He also encouraged the Indians in calling for the British to quit India in 1942 which also led to his imprisonment several times, the Quit India Movement led by Mahatma Gandhi demanded an end to the British but led to violence in the country and the deaths of many.
