GB institutions commands high respect: Byaling

Itagar, Jan 21: The time tested Gaon Bura institution, set up under Assam Frontier (Administration of Justice) Regulation 1945, commands high respect from the tribal society of Aruchal Pradesh, said Home Minister Tanga Byaling.

Addressing over 500 gaon buras and gaon buris of state’s total 9,500 during their foundation day here today, Byaling said the GBs, empowered to maintain the judiciary are not politicians but vey neutral body to grant justice for which they should not behave and act like politicians.

Expressing concern over the fading away of customary laws, Byaling, as chief guest, said the Constitution framed in 1947 by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar included the GBs’ powers and exhorted them to realize its relevance while. He stressed on reviving & popularise traditiol laws to eradicate prevalent social evils, commul living with harmony besides documenting for survival. He announced a guest house-cum-office and assured the demand in the four-point memorandum demanding enhancement of honourarium would be taken up in the Cabinet.

“You (GBs) are the Govt representatives in every village for which you have been appointed with powers. You are expected to grant unbiased justice while facilitating the socio-economic-political development of the society, lawmaker Pani Taram as guest of honour said while assuring all support of the GoAP.

Free electricity and colour TV to all GBs as promised would continue, Taram said and advocated an in-depth research through an expert team in 189 circles of 20 districts for documentation in response to demand for codification of customary laws. He announced a member of each GB family would be absorbed in state government to the thunderous applause of the gathering.

Earlier, the duo declared that All Aruchal Pradesh Gaon Buras & Gaon Buris Welfare Association (AAPGBGBWA) is a registered society though set up in 2007 to the applause of the gathering including local councillor Tarh chung, local youth and senior citizens.

Earlier, AAPGBGBWA president Gichik Lalin, secretary general Teche Lombi & convenor Likha Maj, in their address, spoke at length the services they have been rendering throughout the state covering the iccessible and remote parts of the state.

They lauded the state government, particularly Chief Minister bam Tuki for the generosity in giving all support including offering colour TV, mobile set, WLL telephone set, hiking honorarium, free electricity etc.
