Government won't tolerate politicking in educational institutions: Union HRD Minister

Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal urged students from various educational students to concentrate on their studies and steer away from politicking.

He said, "The Narendra Modi government is not going to tolerate this at any cost."

The young generation who has the responsibility to build the future of this country should not engage in political disruption, he said.

Pokhriyal said that the new education policy is underway to ensure that the tradition and core values of this country be kept intact.

Hundreds of students throughout the country have been engaged in anti-CAA protests calling the Act unconstitutional and prejudiced.

Students from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi University, Jadavpur University, and Presidency University, have actively participated in the protests which saw clashes between police and students.

Various parts of India erupted in massive protests over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) that aims to protect Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan by giving them Indian Citizenship.

The legislation applies to those who were “forced or compelled to seek shelter in India due to persecution on the ground of religion." These people will be given citizenship in six years. The cut-off date for those to be given citizenship in India has been fixed too, on or before the 31st day of December 2014.
