SHIMLA: It was a heartwarming turn of events when the Sirmaur Police successfully reunited a missing man from Assam, Madan Shah, with his family after he was found roaming around Nahan in Himachal Pradesh. Shah had been missing for over a year which prompted his relative, Vindesh Shah to file a missing person report in Assam.
The case came to light on 25 January when a local villager informed the police about a disturbed individual in the region. When they arrived, the policemen saw Madan dressed in rags, unable to talk sensibly because of his mental condition. "After careful counseling, we ascertained that the man was from Assam," claimed IPS Raman Kumar Meena, who headed the probe.
Extensive investigations began in several states, and Sirmaur Police worked in coordination with the Ratnapur Police Station in Assam. The breakthrough came when the man in the video call was identified as the missing Madan by his family members.
Because of the financial constraint, Madan's family could not travel to Himachal Pradesh. However, the police found his sister, Radha, in Uttar Pradesh, who traveled to the Nahan Police Station to enable the reunion. In addition, the police provided Madan with clothes and money for safe return.
After the emotional reunion, Radha thanked the Sirmaur Police with her heartfelt words saying, "They are godsent for reuniting me with my brother," which has been year-long search and prayers for his safe return.
