KOLKATA: A man has reported that his wife convinced him to sell his kidney for Rs 10 lakh to pay for their daughter’s education in Howrah, West Bengal, but she disappeared with another man and took away the money.
According to the police, the man agreed after his wife persuaded him for a year, believing it would secure a brighter future for their 12-year-old daughter. After the surgery last month, he brought the Rs 10 lakh home, as promised.
Once he had recovered from the surgery, his wife asked him to keep the money at home for safekeeping. However, shortly after, she vanished, taking the money and some extra cash from their home.
The man later discovered that both the money and his wife were gone. He then tracked her down to Kolkata with the help of friends, where she was living with another man. It turned out that she had met her lover on Facebook about a year ago and had been in a relationship with him.
When confronted, the wife refused to talk to her husband, mother-in-law, or daughter. The man she was with claimed she was planning to file for divorce, accusing her in-laws of mistreatment. He also denied that she stole any money, insisting that she only took her personal savings.
Based on the husband’s complaint and video evidence from the confrontation, the police have initiated an investigation. Authorities plan to question both the woman and her alleged partner to verify the details and determine what actions will follow in the case.
