New Delhi: The first ever Kho Kho World Cup is being hosted by India in New Delhi at the Indira Gandhi stadium which kicked off on Monday. The event was attended by Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya among other notable personalities.

Addressing the audience at the inaugural ceremony, Mandaviya expressed his gratitude to dignitaries who attended the event which includes Vice President Manoj Sharma, Vinai Saxena, Kho Kho Federation of India President Sudhanshu Mittal and IOA President PT Usha and added that he was happy that Kho Kho World Cup is being organized by India.

He stated that he has urged the Asian Games Council in a letter to include Kho Kho in the Asian Games as well. He also revealed the government's plan to host the 2036 Olympics and added that they will include Kho Kho in the Olympics if that happens.

Other notable personalities present in the event were Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukhla, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi and India TV Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Rajat Sharma.

The participants include 20 men's teams and 19 women's teams. In the opening match that was held on Monday, India played against Nepal.

Teams from multiple countries around the world such as Iran, Malaysia, Republic of Korea, England, Australia, Kenya, Uganda, Netherlands, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Germany, Bangladesh, South Africa, New Zealand, Poland, Peru and Indonesia are participating in the event.
