NEW DELHI: An IndiGo loader took a nap in the cargo compartment of the airline's Mumbai-Abu Dhabi aircraft but was discovered on landing in the UAE capital city, according to officials from the aviation regulator DGCA

"12 December 2021, an IndiGo A320 aircraft was to operate as 6E-1835 from Mumbai to Abu Dhabi," a top officer involved in the incident said. Following the completion of baggage loading, one of the loaders retired to the baggage compartment and fell asleep behind the luggage. "After the staff had marked the headcount, the cargo door was closed."

The Respective Authorities of Abu Dhabi conducted a medical assessment of the loader after the plane reaches the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and his health was judged to be stable and normal, they stated.

He returned to Mumbai as a passenger on the same flight after receiving the necessary permits from Abu Dhabi jurisdictions, according to officials with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

They also stated that the airline staff engaged in the scene has been taken off the roster awaiting an inquiry.

A representative for IndiGo told the media "The event has been reported to us, and the appropriate authorities have been notified. The situation is being looked into."

According to aviation expert Mohan Ranganathan, the occurrence raises issues about not only the airline's flight in command but also safety problems. "If the airline had performed a headcount of their staff before the plane's doors closed, they would have discovered this absence,"
