SRINAGAR: Five terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces in the Kulgam area of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The officials reported that two members of the security forces were injured during the operation.
Security personnel cordoned off and searched Kadder, which is located in the district's Behibagh region, on Wednesday night, after receiving reports of suspected terrorists there, which prompted the start of the gunfight. However, the security forces retaliated after the terrorists opened fire on them, turning the search operation into an encounter.
“On 19 December 24, based on specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists, a Joint Operation launched by Indian Army & Jammu Kashmir Police at Kader, Kulgam. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate and heavy volume of fire. Own troops effectively retaliated,” the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps said in a post on X.
Meanwhile, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist who was allegedly involved in a deadly tunnel construction attack in Gagangeer, Central Kashmir, was shot and killed earlier this month in Srinagar by security personnel.
Shortly after the workers returned to the camp in the evening, terrorists opened fire indiscriminately at Gagangeer in the Gund area, killing seven unarmed labourers and staffers of a contractor working on a tunnel for the major Srinagar-Leh national highway.
