Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are planning to re-open from Nov 2: Reports

As schools in India have finally started to re-open, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya are too planning to re-open from November 2 across the country. The process to assess the situation has started and reports are being collected and the schools would initially reopen for students of classes 9 to 12.

After receiving a nod from the Centre, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Education, the central schools have started collecting feedback from the stakeholders. There are a total of 1250 KVs and 650 JNVs in the country in which about 15 lakh students are enrolled. JNV – notably, are residential schools and would also require to follow the SOPs for Hostels along with the other guidelines as issued by the Central Government.

After the Unlock 4.0 Guidelines approved the reopening of schools on a voluntary basis for students of classes 9 to 12, the KVs had decided to reopen the schools from September 21, as per the permissions. However, the parents had been unwilling and the plans were shelved and schools continued to offer online classes.

It may be noted that state government-run schools have already started to function in various states across the country.

States like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Assam, Himachal Pradesh have already reopened their schools.

At present, attendance is strictly voluntary and has seen only a few students. Mostly the student of classes 9 to 12 have been permitted by the states, with consideration of the board examination.

For the nursery and primary classes, the schools continue to remain closed. No state has given permission to reopen schools for the primary classes as yet.
