MUMBAI: In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old man set his wife on fire after she gave birth to their third daughter in Maharashtra.
Kundlik Uttam Kale allegedly committed this gruesome act against his wife, Maina, setting her on fire with petrol at their home in Gangakhed Naka, approximately 520 kilometers from Mumbai, on Thursday night, according to reports.
The accused frequently quarreled with his wife over her having given birth to three daughters. On Thursday, the couple got into another heated argument, after which the husband poured petrol on his wife and set her ablaze.
“On Thursday night, after one such argument, he poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. She ran out of the house screaming, where people tried to douse the fire. However, by then, she was severely burnt and died while being rushed to a hospital,” a local police official told the media.
The police later arrested the accused husband.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, a tragic incident of domestic violence rocked the otherwise peaceful Niriang Village in Meghalaya's West Jaintia Hills. A mother of six, including a young toddler, was horrifically set on fire by her husband, suffering severe injuries in the brutal attack.
On Tuesday, the Committee on Empowerment of Women, headed by Chairperson Santa Mary Shylla, visited the survivor. Shylla, deeply disturbed by the horrific act, assured the victim of all necessary support and vowed to seek justice. “This was a heinous crime, and we will not rest until the perpetrator faces the full force of the law,” she stated.
