
NEW DELHI : While speaking in Lok Sabha on the issue of drug abuse in India, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that Modi government has a zero-tolerance policy for drug abuse. Shah urged all the states and Union Territories to uphold this policy and fight this war against drugs.
He is of the view that countries that are promoting terrorism in India are taking advantage from the drug trade. This black money is affecting the economy of the nation. He emphasised on restricting the flow of drugs in India from bordering states like Myanmar, and stressed that NCB, Revenue department and anti narcotics agencies have to cooperate and work against eradicating the drug menace.
Shah further distinguished between the drug abusers and drug mafias. He is of the view that abusers are actually the victims who needs to be dealt with care and sympathy. It is the duty of the state to provide these abusers an atmosphere of rehabilitation.
However, the ones involved in smuggling these drugs in the country should be tackled strictly within the confines of the law. Amit Shah further highlighted that, administration is ready to conduct an inter-state NCB probe in every state if necessary. Shah claimed that within 2 years of time period, the issue of drug smuggling will come to an end.
He also mentioned about the role of BSF in the process, which is confined only in seizure of drugs. They cannot register a case against the smugglers, as they are restricted from this right. He asserted that agencies cannot work efficiently if they are not given access to the rights. He urged everyone to trust these agencies.
Shah claimed those who support this issue are indirectly supporting drug trafficking. Massive number of drug cases has been reported in several states of the country. Several raids are conducted every in most regions and seizures are made.
Nonetheless, Amit Shah is very certain of the fact that, within 2 years all the criminals involved in this will be behind the bars.
