MUMBAI : In a major step to strengthen India’s digital infrastructure, Adani Group has unveiled plans to invest ₹50,000 crore over the next decade to build a state-of-the-art 1 GW data center at Maharashtra The group is known for the flow of projects ranging from gyms to airports, making it an integral part of an ambitious ₹7-trillion budget in the coming years Group flagship company Adani Enterprises Ltd and the Maharashtra government formalized their commitment by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the World Economic Forum 2024 in Davos.

The 1 GW capacity hyperscale data infrastructure will be strategically located in key locations such as Mumbai or Navi Mumbai and Pune . Notably, in line with Adani Group’s green energy commitment, the entire data center will be powered by renewable energy.

The project is poised to play a pivotal role in enabling Maharashtra’s green energy strategy and is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for about 20,000 people. This is consistent with the state government’s vision of developing IT-related infrastructure and services, while considering the excessive size of work to be economically and socially beneficial.

Already on the renewable energy trajectory, Mumbai has seen an increase in renewable energy share and now surpasses that of global cities. Adani’s investment in the data center is poised to further contribute to the city’s sustainable energy goals and India’s broader renewable energy goals
