Mumbai: Mumbaikars were in for a shock on Monday as power outage hit several areas of the Maharashtra capital. According to reports, due to grid failure, there is off supply in the entire MMR region.

Many areas -- including Mumbai Central, Thane, Jogeshwari, Wadala, Chembur, and Borivali -- faced power cuts. According to reports, there is a major TATA power grid failure which has caused the power outage across the city.

Even as "restoration" is said to be underway (and is likely to take an hour), Mumbaikars have taken to social media to vent their anger.

Meanwhile, both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) say there is no stoppage in trading despite the power cut in Mumbai.

Local train services between Mumbai's Churchgate to Vasai railway station were also affected during the peak hours on Monday morning due to the citywide grid failure. Apart from the Western Railway, services were also suspended on the Central Railway.

"#PowerOutage Mumbai Suburban trains on CR held up due to grid failure. We will update ASAP. Kindly bear with us," the Central Railway wrote on Twitter, informing about the development.

It is pertinent to mention here that the electric supply in Mumbai has been interrupted due to TATA's incoming electric supply failure, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport has said.
